17th October, Malke:Dusshera celebrations are symbolic of the victory of truth over evil, light over darkness, bliss over suffering. To give lasting and real meaning to this symbolism, one needs to experience this victory in one’s very own life. This implies the vanquishing of Ravana (our ego) at the hands of Rama (inward turned mind) to reclaim the imprisoned Sita (our Consciousness). To celebrate Dusshera, the nine orifices of the body are to be cleaned through the course of nine sacred nights by rousing the power of the Divine Mother within the body.
